Another factor that plays into the cost of embryo genetic testing is the type of PGT you select.
How Much Does PGT-A Cost?
Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidies (PGT-A), previously known as preimplantation genetic screening, averages around $3,500.
PGT-A checks for chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo before the embryo transfer. This includes:

How Much Does PGT-M Cost?
Preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic disorders (PGT-M), previously known as preimplantation genetic diagnosis, is typically more expensive than PGT-A.

If someone in your family carries one of these genes, then you may consider PGT-M for your embryos, as they are passed on genetically. The cost of genetic testing embryos for single-gene disorders may be more than PGT-A, and those costs could vary based on what genetic disorder you’re testing for, but it could be worth the peace of mind that you need.
Does Insurance Cover Genetic Testing of Embryos?
Some insurance companies cover PGT-A. Progyny and Stork, for instance, are infertility benefit administrators for some insurance companies. Still, not every insurance company covers PGT-A even if they cover IVF, so be sure to check with your insurance group and see what their protocol is regarding embryo genetic testing cost.
Is Embryo Genetic Testing Tax Deductible?
According to IRS Publication 502, IVF is a qualified medical expense that is tax deductible. That’s because of IVF’s role in the “diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment or prevention of disease.” Within that includes expenses relating to IVF, such as the embryo transfer, lab fees, storage fees and donor fees.
Part of that may include embryo genetic testing, so make sure to consult your accountant or financial advisor about this.
Is Genetic Testing on Embryos Worth It?
