If you’re an older parent who’s completed their family, you might feel ready to help others do the same. Becoming a surrogate at an older age comes with a set of unique considerations. If you’re over the age of 45, you may have started to go through or have gone through menopause, which can affect your ability to become a surrogate.
We’re here to shed light on the possibility of surrogacy after menopause and why our surrogate requirements prioritize the safety and well-being of both surrogates and the babies they carry. We know that you have a strong desire to help others fulfill their dreams of parenthood. Our goal is to help every surrogate complete their journey safely.

What is the Age Limit for a Surrogate Mother?
Our surrogate program requires you to be within the age range of 21-38 in order to qualify as a surrogate. While menopause typically occurs around the age of 50, our agency’s age requirements ensure that surrogates are within an age range that generally reflects a reduced chance of complications during pregnancy.
But, can you be a surrogate after menopause? We typically don’t work with surrogates who are beyond the surrogate age limit. Our surrogate requirements are established to prioritize the safety and well-being of both the surrogate and the baby, ensuring a healthier, smoother surrogacy journey for everyone involved.
Understanding Menopause and Surrogate Age Limits
Our surrogate age limit is 38 years old and prioritizes the health of both you and the baby. Menopause marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years, typically beginning around the age of 50. However, the transition towards menopause, known as premature menopause, can start in the late 40s.
As part of our commitment to the safety and well-being of our surrogates and the babies they carry, our age requirements help minimize potential complications that may arise during pregnancy and delivery. Advanced maternal age can lead to increased risks during pregnancy, such as higher chance of gestational diabetes, hypertension or other health issues that could affect your overall experience.
Can You Be a Surrogate After Premature Menopause?
If you’re experiencing premature menopause but meet our surrogate age limit and health requirements you can still be eligible to become a surrogate. Every situation is unique, and we recognize your desire to help other fulfill their dreams of having a family.
Our commitment is to ensure both the surrogate and the baby experience a safe, healthy journey throughout the process. If you meet our surrogate age limits and are interested in becoming a surrogate, then here are some of our other surrogate requirements:
-
At least one prior successful pregnancy
-
You are currently raising a child
-
BMI of 19-32
-
Not currently smoking
We value your dedication to helping another family fulfill their dreams of becoming parents. While we have specific surrogate age limits, our goal is to help create families through surrogacy. If you don’t meet our age requirements, then know that you can still help build families through our surrogate referral program. You can earn $5,000 or more as a referral fee when you refer a friend to become a surrogate with our program.
Here's how our referral program works:
-
Step 1: Refer a friend who you believe will make a great surrogate.
